The Conservative Group on Cornwall Council has welcomed the news that Cornwall is due to receive a share of £6.1million to support Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in the county.
At the same time, Conservative Group Leader Cllr Linda Taylor has unveiled a plan for the Conservative Group to work closely with the BIDs going forward.
Commenting, Linda said:
“During these difficult times it has never been so important for businesses to work closely with local and central government in order to ensure they get the support they need to survive now, and grow in the future.”
“We were delighted to see, following campaigning led by Cornwall MP Cherilyn Mackrory and Falmouth BID, the announcement of the Government funding last week, and as a group look forward to seeing it drawn down to help these business communities as soon as possible.”
“Looking to the future, in our Conservative Group we have many councillors with decades of business experience across a wide variety of backgrounds.
“I had already initiated discussions with my BID manager in St Ives and our MP Derek Thomas and tomorrow we are holding a virtual meeting with local tourism chiefs on managing the communities concerns while at the same time looking towards opening up for business in accordance with Government guidelines.”
“I have also raised this with BID managers across Cornwall and am now opening up this conversation to Conservative Councillors and BIDs across the county. We are the party of business and with Conservative Councillors and MPs working together with businesses to support our local economy we will be a force to be reckoned with!”
