Steve Double, Member of Parliament for St Austell and Newquay has today welcomed the news that projects in the constituency have received over half a million pounds from the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
In Newquay, Newquay Town Council has been given £499,700 towards a £1.42 million project to improve access and egress to town centre events space in Newquay, including improvements to local infrastructure to cater for complex events, open air markets and stalls and landscaping work from the Coastal Communities Fun
In St Austell, the St Austell Arts Centre has been given £49,000 in funding from the Coastal Revival Fund. The Coastal Revival Fund supports projects to help revive heritage assets that are important to local communities but have not yet reached their full potential or are facing neglect.
Commenting on the Newquay Town Council bid, Steve said:
“This is excellent news and congratulations to the team at Newquay Town Council for putting together such a strong bid, which I was pleased to support.”
“This funding will go towards the transformation of the events and market space project at Killacourt and in doing so once completed will provide a vibrant community space and hub for town events in the future.”
