The Conservative Group on Cornwall Council have welcomed the announcement by Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government James Brokenshire MP, that Cornwall Council will be receiving £625,009 from the Rough Sleeping Initiative fund to help in the fight against homelessness.
In December Cornwall Council and its partners welcomed another drop in the number of rough sleepers recorded on Cornwall’s streets, which showed a 46% reduction in the total number of rough sleepers recorded since November 2016.
Commenting, Conservative Group Leader Cllr Linda Taylor said:
“This is great news - thanks to our MPs for lobbying the government to ensure Cornwall continues to get its fair share of funding.”
“While we are pleased to see homeless figures in Cornwall dropping, thanks to the excellent work of council officers aided by previous government funding in this area, even a small number of rough sleepers is too many.
“We pledge to ensure the officers at the council spend this money wisely tackling the causes of homelessness as well as providing solutions for those already suffering from or threatened with it.”
