The Conservative Group on Cornwall Council has welcomed the cross party motion calling on Cornwall Council to declare a climate change emergency at today’s Full Council.
The amendment, which specifically called upon Cornwall Council to declare a Climate Emergency as well as work with central government to find green and sustainable ways of future working strengthened the original motion, which just called for a report to be written.
Commenting, Conservative Group Leader Cllr Linda Taylor said:
“Climate change is something that we all need to talk about and I welcome this being front and centre of Cornwall Council’s first full meeting of 2019.”
“It is a shame that the Liberal Democrats who originally proposed the motion, could not get support from within their own group on the original motion, and what was originally proposed was significantly watered down.”
“We were pleased then to work with like-minded councillors from across the political spectrum to vote for this amendment today, and were pleased to see it passed.”
“We now look forward to working with the council and government to support this movement going forward, for ours and future generations.”
