Newquay Councillor Olly Monk has welcomed news today that the Government has awarded Cornwall Council another £607,000 to go towards improving cycling and walking routes.
The funding is being making available under tranche two of the Government’s £175 million Active Travel Fund.
Olly said:
“I am pleased to see Cornwall Council awarded more of this money from the government and thank our six Cornwall Conservative MPs for their work in highlighting Cornwall’s need.”
“We have some excellent emerging projects to give better, dedicated facilities for walkers and cyclists, particularly the Saints Trail which will be linking Perranporth and Newquay.”
“But more can be done here and I want to see the Trail finishing with a proper route into Newquay.”
“That’s why I have written to Transport Portfolio Holder Cllr Geoff Brown asking to ensure asking what the plans for this new funding are. I hope that as a fellow Newquay Councillor he will look at ensuring some extra funding is made available for the Saints Trail.”
“I look forward to his response.”
