The Conservative Group on Cornwall Council has called for the Leader of Cornwall Council to listen to the people the council are there to serve and stop wasting money on EU focussed projects.
The call comes after Cornwall Council launches a new section on its website around a campaign the Liberal Democrat-Independent Administration that runs the council is leading on closer regional co-operation between the EU and Cornwall. This follows a call for action signed by the Leader of Cornwall Council in July, which three months down the line has embarrassingly only attracted five signatures.
Conservative Group Leader Linda Taylor said:
“This is just more tone deaf nonsense from the Lib Dems and their friends who run Cornwall Council, who wish to press on with closer relations with the EU despite overwhelming evidence from their electorate over 4 years, 1 referendum and 2 General Elections that this is not the case.”
“More so on this occasion the Leader of the Council has apparently not even bothered to consult with any other Cornwall Councillors, not his Cabinet or the wider membership, before making these decisions.”
“We mustn’t forget that he has form in this area; the calamitous European City of Culture Bid for Truro was his brainchild in the last council, and this administration keeps at it again and again, with its office in Brussels and official position of still supporting a second referendum.”
“They just don’t know where to stop. How much officer time is being wasted on this latest folly, once again cooked up seemingly without any councillor or public consultation?”
“This Conservative Group will continue to call this chaotic administration out when it continues to act without reference to the wider membership or the people of Cornwall, and hope Cornwall’s taxpayers are listening ahead of next year’s local elections.”
